On the afternoon of July 17, a delegation from the School of Foreign Languages at Xi'an University of Arts and Science, led by Dean Han Hongjian and including representatives Ni Bo, Zhangsun Furong, Yan Haoran and Liu Jielin, visited our school for an exchange seminar. Our MTI Center Director He Hua, English Department Head Li Tie, and internal co-supervisors Professors Tian Jin, Gao Li, Xu Lin and Zhang Xin attended the meeting, which was chaired by Dean Cao Ruonan.

Dean Cao warmly welcomed Dean Han and his team, and provided a brief introduction to our school’s history, distinctive advantages, enrollment scale and faculty development. Dean Cao noted that since the signing of the joint training agreement for master’s degree students, four mentors from the School of Foreign Languages have been selected as external supervisors. Starting with the 2024 translation master’s program, a “dual mentor” model will be implemented to enhance guidance in internships and thesis writing, promoting complementary advantages and deepening collaborative exchanges.

In response, Han Hongjian, representing the School of Foreign Languages at Xi’an University of Arts and Sciences, expressed gratitude for the efforts made by our school in promoting cooperation between the two schools. Dean Han also congratulated us on the recent approval of the Chinese Academic Translation Project. He emphasized that, as a university established by the Xi’an government and jointly developed by the provincial and municipal governments, Xi'an University of Arts and Sciences has long been committed to serving the local economic development of Xi’an, which perfectly aligns with Northwest University’s educational philosophy of “promoting national spirit, integrating global thought, and shouldering the responsibility of building the Northwest.” Dean Han believes that with strong support from the Xi’an government, the school has advantageous resources for school-government collaboration, which can offer more opportunities for cooperation in areas such as internships, practical training and research outcomes. Dean Han hopes that both sides will work together sincerely to make new contributions to the high-quality development of both universities.

Subsequently, our representatives presented appointment letters to external supervisors Ni Bo and Zhangsun Furong. Both parties engaged in enthusiastic discussions about the specifics of the joint training program.

Finally, Dean Cao summarized the meeting. She emphasized the need for western universities in China to strengthen subject co-construction and resource sharing, continually deepen comprehensive reforms in education, break down developmental barriers, and form a collaborative force to enhance educational effectiveness. Dean Cao expressed hope for ongoing interaction between the two schools to explore new educational models, achieving complementary advantages and win-win cooperation in talent cultivation.
